Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit

2 December 2015

Guess who's back, back again, Basmah's back, tell your friends. It's been a hot minute, to the point where I think I've forgotten how to write a blog post. Like what do I talk about? Do I have to introduce myself? Guess I'll just have to wing it. I think a break was necessary for me to find my mojo, focus on my life a little, but now I'm getting into the groove again. So tell me, how have you been? Started your Christmas shopping yet? Let me know. Anyway, today I'm writing about something exciting and a little fancy. You have probably already read the title, but today I'm talking about the brand new Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit. Yep, that palette that all the bloggers are talking about because they either love it or hate it. So keep reading to find out which side I'm on.

Where Have I Been?

17 August 2015

Right, so I was sitting down one evening and I couldn't help but feel guilty. I haven't posted a blog post in the longest time (around 7 weeks to be exact, nearly 2 months!) and honestly I was starting to miss you guys. So many of you have been around from the very beginning, to when I was a newbie blogger that had no followers but would jump at the fact that someone commented on my post. So you all deserve an explanation, whether you've been around since the start, or you followed me just yesterday.

First off, I still love my blog, I still love beauty and I still love all of you guys which is why I'm going to try my absolute best to blog regularly. Except this time I'm not making any promises which I'll explain later. Writing is a passion of mine and I used to come on this little baby of mine and not only help everyone on their beauty decisions but also help fuel my desire to write. Because of my blog I've had the greatest opportunities and met some amazing people along the way so believe me when I say, this blog is not going anywhere anytime soon.

The reason blogging has sort of taken the back end of my to-do list is because of university and work. And while I love blogging for you as regularly as possible it can be hard with my busy schedule. In my university holidays I was working nearly everyday of the week, and I'm very lucky to have a job that I love so I wasn't complaining, but that meant that I used to get home around 6:00 pm everyday and wouldn't have to energy to take photographs and put up a blog post. Next thing you know I'm getting messages saying "why did you stop blogging!?" or "I loved reading your blog!" and that made me realise that enough is enough, I'll just have to try and work around my life.

The third reason is university. If you're in university or you've gone to university previously you would know how intense the workload can be (I should be doing my readings right now but this is more important) so the stress can build up. I go to university 3 days a week which doesn't leave me all the time in the world to blog. When I first started blogging I became excited every time it came to posting up a new post, and I want those feelings to come back because I know they're still there.

Like I said, my blog isn't going anywhere, and I'm going to try my absolute best to post regularly because this blog has been there for me when things got rough and you all have been there for me when my life wasn't so chaotic. Thank you for being so patient and thank you for all the support because I cannot stress how much it means to me.

Lancome Grandiose Mascara

17 June 2015

Guess whose holidays have started? *raises hand* which means more blog posts! Today I'll be talking about my favourite mascara of the moment, the Lancome Grandiose. I always use to be that person in the room who didn't understand the reason for buying expensive mascaras, I mean, they all work the same right? I was proven wrong when I tried the Lancome Grandiose, because if there is one thing every makeup look needs, is long lashes. Lancome is known for their mascaras, whether you've tried the Hypnose, or the Doll Eyes, there is something for everyone. Not to mention, my makeup inspiration Lisa Eldridge is now the creative director for Lancome, so even more reason to buy everything they bring out.

Brand Spotlight: Glamourflage

13 May 2015

I'm a sucker for anything that comes in cute packaging. Not to mention, it's a huge bonus if said cute product works well. I was sent the Glamourflage Sultry Sophie Lip & Cheek Stain* and the Mermaid Meg Sleep Mask* and let me tell you that when I opened that package as soon as it arrived on my doorstep, I may or may not have squealed in excitement (hint: it's the former). The packaging reminded me a lot of The Balm or Benefit as it was very sixties and retro, and let's be honest, I had pretty high expectations considering I was comparing it to the likes of those two high-end brands.

The Luxe Eye Cream That Works

11 May 2015

Wow 3 weeks and no blog post! How crazy right? Apologies for the absence, I've been consumed with university assignments and work, so blogging got pushed back on the list of priorities unfortunately. Today I'll be talking about a luxury eye cream that my regional manager at work told me about, and I'm so glad she did. Most of you would already know that I've been blessed with genetic under eye circles, and let me tell you, they are not pretty. It could also be because I'm Pakistani, and most of us have to endure dreaded darkness under our eyes because of our skin tone. While concealer can only go so far, an eye cream is probably the most important product to add to your regime, especially if you're 18+, which is why I've been loving the Apot.Care Irido-Radiant Eye Contour.

The Concealer That Replaced All Concealers

13 April 2015

Right, so I'm writing this blog post with a sore throat and no voice, so lucky I'm not a YouTuber eh? Urban Decay launched in Australia on the 27th of March at Mecca Maxima stores, so in celebration I've decided to write a blog post on the concealer that I just cannot get enough of lately: Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer. Since I'm genetically blessed with designer bags underneath my eyes, I'm always searching for a concealer that won't crease, has full coverage, but still sits well underneath the eyes, and ladies and gents, I think I've found it.

An Affordable Spot Treatment - Does it Work?

3 April 2015

When it comes to spot treatments, I tend to be on the "never-really-used-them" team. You see, I'm one of those people that when I get a sudden pimple, I usually just let life deal with it, or I go the worst way possible and end up popping it (accidentally!). When I was sent the Clearasil Ultra Rapid Action Pimple Cream*, not going to lie, I was hesitant. Not because I refuse to try a spot treatment, but because Clearasil and my skin have never been the best of friends. In the past, their face washes have dried out my skin, made me break out and just was a nightmare to use, but I put my big girl pants on and gave this a whirl.

My Holy Grail Blush

29 March 2015

I'm sure you're intrigued, because who the heck has a holy grail blush!? Well I'm pleased to announce that I do, and I cannot wait to tell you all about it. By Terry, just by the name it sounds luxurious, and why wouldn't it be, it was created by French royalty after all. From the scent of roses in every product, to the creation of the famous YSL Touche Eclat (Yep, Terry created the Touche Eclat!), Terry Gunzburg is a genius. While many associate By Terry as a brand for mature women, as someone who prefers their makeup to look minimal and fresh this brand is absolutely perfect. The By Terry Cheek to Cheek in Cherry Cruise is a liquid blush tint which gives you the perfect rosy flush to the cheeks, and while it does need some getting used to, once you get the hang of the application, you will fall in love.

Simple Micellar Cleansing Water & #SimpleActs Campaign

21 March 2015

You gotta hand it to the French, they know their beauty products as well as they know their way around a baguette, which I'm craving right now so I had to throw that in there. Unless you've been hibernating (or just loaded with university assignments such as myself) then you have most definitely heard of Simple Skincare. Y'know, the greatest makeup removing wipes in all of history? Yeah, that Simple. They're a UK brand who have recently released a brand spankin' new Micellar Cleansing Water*! Yes, you heard right, and stick around because I'm also going to tell you how this Micellar Cleansing Water is doing good for other people, and could potentially score you a weekend day spa retreat.

5 Minute Eye Makeup

10 March 2015

Raise your hands if you like to sleep in and end up running around like a headless chicken trying to get your face on in the mornings? I'm a very punctual person (I mean, get to my destination 30 minutes before I need to, I know, it's ridiculous) but even I sometimes turn off my alarm only to find out I overslept for about an hour. This is where the 5 minute eye makeup comes in. This is my whack-on eye shadow for when I want to look presentable and not as if I was in a complete frenzy, because c'mon ladies, we can do anything, even if it is applying makeup in 10 seconds tops.

Zoeva Classic Eye Brush Kit

3 March 2015

Makeup brushes are the most important tool of the trade. You can have an $80 foundation, but if you don't have the right applicator to apply it with, then it won't live up to it's full potential. I've tried a lot of brushes, from Sigma to Real Techniques, so when these Zoeva brushes landed on my doorstep, they had a lot to live up to. And boy, they sure did. I ordered the classic eye brush kit from Beautybay after hearing rave reviews about them on blogs and forums, and I can tell you with full confidence, that these definitely live up to the hype! Oh, and not to mention Lisa Eldridge used one of the Zoeva brushes in her latest video so I knew I made the right choice.

The Secret to Long Lashes

23 February 2015

Okay, so this title may be a little misleading, because is it a secret? Probably not, but what I can tell you is that it works. If you have no idea what I'm rambling on about, it's castor oil. Not just any castor oil, The Palma Christi Castor Oil, which is pure and cold pressed. To be honest, I've tried using castor oil on my eyelashes before but I didn't find it life changing, and that's because I was using castor oil with a hundred other ingredients added into the mix. For the past week I've been applying pure castor oil to my eyelashes and the difference is astounding!

Gerard Cosmetics Lipsticks - 1995 & Berry Smoothie

17 February 2015

If you watch YouTube then you would have heard about Gerard Cosmetics, they're the creators of the famous 1995 lipstick which is said to be the exact shade Kylie Jenner wears. Now, I'm not one to get into the YouTube hype unless it's a product raved about a YouTuber I trust (hello Pixiwoo and Lisa E) but I decided to try out these lipsticks because everyone was raving about them, even those who weren't sponsored. So when these arrived in my mail box, I was excited to say the least, and had very high expectations. Did they rise up to meet them? Let's just say that I don't love them, but I don't hate them either.

EOS Lip Balms: Definitely Not Worth The Hype

12 February 2015

If you follow me on Instagram (@laceeandlattes if you're wondering), then you would know that on my recent trip to Costco, I bought a pack of 4 eos lip balms. Y'know, those cute, round lip balms that everyone seems to rave about. Needless to say I was running around like a headless chicken because I was so excited to try them out, would they be better than my Carmex? I can tell you straight off the bat, NO. In an overview, I paid around $3.50 for a cute lip balm that did absolutely nothing, and this review will tell you why it's not worth it.

January Favourites

10 February 2015

I haven't done a favourites post in a long, long time, simply because I didn't have any products speak out to me. Now, I only like to recommend products I truly love and use, so I wasn't going to throw in a bunch of random products just for the sake of a favourites post. But lo and behold! January was the month I discovered some amazing gems, and they're all products I haven't tried before — with the exception of one. For the month of January, I didn't have a huge variety of makeup products that I fell in love with, but more so skin care. For some reason my skin started playing up and wasn't cooperating with me, and the products that I show you today play a huge part in the recovery of my skin.

January Overview

31 January 2015

January, the first month of the year. I thought it was fitting to start a monthly overview of all the blog posts I had written for the month, and as it's the 31st of January (seriously, where does the time go!?) I wanted to revisit my previous blog posts. Just in case you missed any blog posts on Lacee & Lattes, you can now click the link of the post below, have a little read, and maybe let me know how you liked it.

The Best Eyelash Glue (It's Only $10!)

29 January 2015

I've only recently hopped onto the false eyelash bandwagon, and even though I don't wear them very often, I have to admit, they definitely add something special to an otherwise ordinary makeup look. Almost as if it's the icing on top of the cake. Now, it's quite easy to go out, buy a pair of lashes and put them on (not that easy actually), but even though they look great 5 minutes after you put them on, the real test is whether or not they last the entire night. This is where your glue comes in, and today I'm bringing you an option that is not DUO glue, and is also more affordable, so sit tight!

A Great $3 Eye Primer & A Crap $60 Mascara

25 January 2015

I'm a firm believer of price does not equal to quality, and since I love to bring you all affordable products that work wonderfully, I've decided to tell you all about a product that is definitely NOT worth your $60. But since I like to be positive and optimistic, I'm also going to talk about an eye primer that's cheap as chip and works just as well as a high end eye primer.

A Foundation Tip You Need to Know

20 January 2015

My skin is my worst enemy, sometimes it's so oily that I can probably make a cool living off of it, and sometimes it's so dry that no amount of moisturiser can repair my flaky skin. I'm not sure if anyone else goes through these skin issues, but I have a way to solve it. This tip is for those of you who have oily skin, but also for those who have dry skin, and ever since I started applying this to my own makeup routine, my makeup has never looked better. All you need is a liquid or cream foundation, and a facial oil.

Top Workout Videos

17 January 2015

If you ask anyone what their new year resolution is, they'll most definitely mention working out, and while we usually workout for the first week, by the second week we end up back on our couch eating Oreos. I've been working out religiously for about a month now, and while I do have a gym membership, I lack motivation to actually go there, which is why YouTube is my best friend. By watching workout videos, I've seen effective results in the comfort of my own home and it's free! Before I get into this I would like to say that I do not exercise to lose weight, as I'm naturally thin, so I exercise to tone up my body and build muscle. Of course, these workouts are great to lose weight also, and you can modify them according to your level and needs.

Z By Zegna

13 January 2015

I don't usually write blog posts on fragrance, and that's because I always think "well, what am I going to write about?" I'm hopeless at describing scents and notes, but I knew that this men's cologne was an exception. I HAD to write about it because to put it simply, it is the best smelling cologne I have ever come across. No, I do not use it myself in case you're wondering, but if you have a man in your life, or you're a man who is reading this write now, then run and grab this right after you finish reading. It is so good that it has practically become a ritual for me to make every guest who comes over smell this cologne, only because I want to see their reaction of pure and utter bliss.

L'Occitane Mini Hand Creams

11 January 2015

I'm a huge fan of L'Occitane. They make the best hand creams and foot creams, and trust me, I've tried a lot. You see, I suffer from eczema, and when my hands are dry then it's a nightmare as it makes my eczema even worse, so I always have to have hand cream on handy. Recently I paid a visit to my nearest L'Occitane store to stock up on my favourite shea butter hand cream, and when I went to pay for my item, they offered me this cute tin of mini hand creams for $5. Would you have said no? Probably not, which is why I bought it. It's an investment really, I mean, if I didn't spend it on this, then I would have spent my hard earned $5 on food instead.

Rosehip Oils: Which Ones Work?

6 January 2015

I've tried a lot of rosehip oils, and I haven't always had the best experience with them. The first time I used rosehip oil, it didn't do anything for my skin. Didn't give a glow, didn't remove acne scarring and hyper-pigmentation, nada. The next one I tried ended up making my skin breakout, so I went off that one almost immediately. But after staying away from rosehip oils because of my traumatic past, I ended up discovering one that I loved, so the truth is, not all rosehip oils are bad, you just need to find one that suits you. That goes in accordance with this post as well, what worked for me may not exactly work for you, but in my opinion, these 3 oils include the best and the worst.

A Peek Inside My Summer Makeup Bag

4 January 2015

Summer is well and truly upon us. I say this because it's 37 degrees here in Sydney and judging by the sweat beads forming on my forehead, I can confidently say that it's hot. When it comes to the heat my makeup becomes simplified. No more heavy matte foundations, or smokey eye shadows, I like everything to be light and fresh. For foundation I'll use only a dot on my entire face, for eye makeup I'll add a slick of mascara and I'm out the door. Today I'm going to show you a little sneak peek inside my summer makeup bag.

Affordable My-Lips-But-Better Lipstick

2 January 2015

I think the number #1 thing I'm always on the hunt for is a lipstick I can wear everyday, or in other terms, a "my-lips-but-better" lipstick. A lipstick I can throw on for when I'm in a hurry, and I know it won't look strange with a smokey eye, or if we look on the opposite side of the spectrum, a natural look. Many people told me to check out NARS Dolce Vita, so I went to Mecca Maxima and tried it out, and I loved it. The price tag? Not so much. To be honest, I was still planning on purchasing it because I knew I would get a ton of use out of it, until I came across an option that cost $4.75!
